7 DAYS WITH THE MEDIA

Since 2013, during a week in May, the Informal Media Literacy Group (GLIM) has promoted an “operation” to spark reflection on media and its role in society.

The goal is that, throughout a week (or even all of May), groups of students, teachers, schools, libraries, companies, municipalities or universities promote activities that allow us to reflect on the media and the role they play in our lives and in society.

The “7 Days with the Media” operation usually coincides with May 3rd, World Press Freedom Day. The press is, however, only one of the aspects that may be addressed. The risks of old and new media, the challenges to freedom of expression and publication today, the new and sophisticated forms of control and surveillance, the responsibilities of citizenship towards media communication are other topics suggested on the website of the initiative, which was developed within the GILM in 2013.
